I’ve got another thrift store find for you all today. I know you must be sitting on the edge of your seat… a little sarcasm for ya! I just love thrift stores. You never know what you’re going to find. I typically find some of the coolest things when I’m not looking for anything in particular. Last time I was in TJ Max I saw the cutest basket with handles for around $15. I was tempted to get it but was glad I didn’t. A couple days later when I was in Goodwill I found a similar basket with handles for under $3. It wasn’t the finish I would have liked it to be but the size and style was perfect.
I decided to white wash the basket. To do this I used a mixture of 50% chalk paint and 50% water. If you’re looking for an easy chalk paint recipe mine is here. I used a dry brush technique.
Dip your brush and then dab it off onto a paper towel or rag until your brush is dry essentially. This way the paint collects in the joints but does not run. Brush on paint in a small section and let it sit for a minute or two then use a paper towel to wipe the excess paint off.
After I white washed the whole basket I let it dry over night before I put anything in it. The chalk paint dries fairly quick, I just didn’t want to take any risk of paint getting on anything.
It amazing what a little paint can do! It’s a fun new addition to the living room. I say you can never have enough storage. I have a bit of an obsession with throws and throw pillows. Storage is a must at our house!
I hope you all have a great weekend! Feel free to share some of your own favorite thrift store finds. I’d love to see them 🙂
