A New Guest Bathroom Vanity + Our Free Building Plans

January 24, 2017

Today you’re getting a glimpse into a space in our home that I haven’t really shared yet, aside from the horrible before photos. While this space isn’t 100% finished the vanity is! It’s funny how you can change your mind several times on one decision in your house and when you finally nail down exactly what you want in the space you just want to jump for joy. This upstairs guest bathroom has seen not one new vanity but two. Originally, after we laid the new tile we installed a pedestal sink. I love it except that it did not have any storage. It would have been fine if I had found the right storage piece to to in between the sink and toilet but I never did. I’m so happy we decided to go back to the drawing board and this is what I came up with.

I made sure to look at all the options in the stores and old antique pieces that had been turned into vanities. I’ve always been drawn to vintage pieces and simple, clean lines. I settled on this style. It reminds me of a vintage printer cabinet. You can view our free building plans on Build Something.

DIY Vintage Style Bathroom Vanity

The cabinet door is made to look like two narrow drawers. Instead it opens as one door into a large cabinet. We used hidden hinges that you can find at most hardware stores.

The hardware give the piece an authentic vintage style.

The whole cabinet is painted in Decorators White by Benjamin Moore. We made sure to seal the vanity with a couple coats of polyacrylic to prevent damage from moisture. I can’t wait to wrap up the whole room and share the drastic before and after with you all. I hope to be able to do that in the next couple of weeks. Do forget to check out all the great furniture plans on Build Something. Not only do they have easy step by step instructions, they’re all free!  You can find the plans to our vanity here.
